Chris Bishop’s Custom Datsun 1600

Roadster Looks So Old And Yet So New

Anyone who is into classic Japanese cars will have heard or seen the Datsun Roadster from the 1960s. It was a beauty, but this 1966 Roadster is unlike anything you have seen. It look so old and yet so new at the same time.

It looks like something Bond would have driven in one of his movies. It is a beauty beyond words can describe. So describe we shall not. Instead, lets just jump into some of the highlights.

This 1966 Datsun Roadster is the work of art by Chris Bishop, owner of Richmond-based Japanese Classics. It is powered by an Autech S15 SR20DE. Yeah, it is naturally aspirated, as a classic like it should. The 197 HP motor is mated to a 5-speed SR20 gearbox and features a custom one-off valve cover.

Other details include Work Equip 40 rollers, aptly retro custom half-height bucket seats (complete with a tab that says “Japanese Classics”), Moroccan leather interior by Relicate, Yoshimura USA Exhaust (yes, it has a motorbike exhaust!), custom coilovers by Fortune Auto USA and as a final touch, it gets a custom engine plaque.
